Music has been the soundtrack to my life for as long as I can remember.

Growing up, I would often go to bed with a small transistor radio tucked under my pillow, listening to late-night music programmes that seemed to open a window onto another world. Long before the internet, those shows—along with well-thumbed music magazines—were how I discovered new artists, legendary concerts, and the stories behind the songs.

Like so many people of my generation, the music of The Beatles was where it all began. Their rooftop concert on Savile Row in January 1969—spontaneous, rebellious, and historic—captured something magical about live music that has never really been replaced.

From Pubs to the Airwaves

My fascination with music history only grew from there. Woodstock, legendary gigs, iconic venues—the moments when music seemed to change the world.

In the mid-1970s, living in Melbourne, I was lucky enough to see AC/DC in their formative years, with Bon Scott fronting the band in pubs and small venues around the city. At the time it felt raw and electric—the sense that something special was happening right in front of you.

Music eventually became more than just a passion. I spent most of my working life in radio, where I had the privilege of interviewing many of the artists whose records had filled those late-night broadcasts when I was young.

The Birth of Rattle & Roll

About 10 years ago, I visited the original site of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair in upstate New York. Standing there, it struck me how powerful those moments in music history still feel decades later.

Rattle & Roll grew from a simple idea: that the great moments in music history deserve to be remembered and celebrated. Not just through stories, but through the concerts themselves; the venues, the dates, the setlists, and the nights when something special happened.

Each of our designs captures one of those moments—a gig that mattered, a performance that changed music, or a band at the exact point when history was being made.
